Gain Top Ranking on Google, Yahoo and MSN

A website that is not optimized is like trying to ride a surfboard without the waves!

Catch the waves with an optimized website design!

If you are the owner of a website on the Internet, an optimized website can help bring more traffic to your website pages! This can be very important if you are a business on the Web.

To understand the concept of an optimized website, you might want to compare it to walk-in customers at a regular storefront. If you are in a busy traffic area, say at a busy mall, then you will have more customers. An optimized website can deliver more customers in much the same way. The reason for this is because a website that is optimized for Google, Yahoo, or MSN moves closer to busy Web traffic. Unlike a regular store, a Web store can move easily. So, where do you want your Web store to be? The best place is at the top of the search engine listings! Google delivers over 59% of website traffic on the Net so a website that is optimized for Google is like having your storefront at a very busy mall.

At a busy mall you would expect to pay a very high price for a storefront in a prime area. This can also be true at Google, Yahoo, or MSN. These search engines all offer paid listings. You can pay for a sponsored listing on Google, Yahoo, or MSN and your website will be sponsored at the top or on the right hand side of the search page. This is a very visible area for "walk-in traffic".

But, did you know that you can also acquire a busy Web storefront area for a fraction of the cost? This is what is called "free website traffic" or "organic listings". An optimized website can help your website attain a higher position on Google, Yahoo, or MSN search pages; sometimes in the top ten listings. These aren't paid listings. Instead these listings are being added to the search results to provide searchers with "free information". When Google, Yahoo, or MSN can deliver "free information" they can generate money by placing advertisements on or near those pages.

Google, Yahoo, MSN and many others work very hard at keeping their "content" very rich and up to date. For this reason the most relevant and the very best websites will appear at the top of the free search engine listings. Does this mean that if your website does not appear at the top of the free listings, that your website is not the best? Well, not necessarily. It takes time and knowledge to build a website that the search engines will love!

By now you are probably wondering how you can get your website optimized for the top free listings on Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

There are two ways you can do this. One, you can hire a search engine consultant to do it for you, or you can can learn to do it yourself. Of course if you choose the former, you will save time, and if you choose the latter, you will save money. Like all good things, learning search engine optimization takes time.

Either way, you will learn about keywords and how they can help your website. For example, you may have found this website under the keywords "optimized website". I have used the keywords "optimized website" many times on this page. But, that doesn't necessarily mean that my website will be found under those keywords. There are many more factors that will pull a website up to the top of Google's free listings and a website may be found using many different keyword variations. This is easy to prove as almost any nonsense keywords will pull up a website that is not optimized for that particular keyword.

As an exercise, try typing some nonsense keywords into Google and see what you will get! Obviously, these websites have not been optimized for Google using nonsense keywords. It is apparent that other factors contribute to these top listings.

You are now, no doubt, asking yourself, "What are the other contributing factors?" There are many factors and these are determined by the algorithms that Google, Yahoo and MSN use to return search results. Unfortunately, these algorithms are not easily understood nor do they stay the same! An optimized website must always be changing and growing. This is because Google, Yahoo, or MSN is always changing. The Web does not stay the same for one second!

By today's standards, it is important for you to create incoming links for your website or to make your website so fantastic that many ohter websites will want to link back to it! An optimized website will have many incoming links.

Don't forget about the titles of your website pages. These should accurately describe your Web pages and should contain at least 10 important keywords.
